CocoFlix critic verdict

While its amnesia-meets-fake-relationship premise feels familiar, "Our Sticky Love" elevates the K-drama rom-com with a mature edge, making it a compelling, if occasionally frustrating, watch for those craving character depth over pure fluff.

The Intrigue of Amnesia and Misdirection

Directors Kim Jang-han and Mo Ji-hye’s 2026 flick, “Our Sticky Love,” hopes to stand out in a sea of K-dramas as it attempts to draw viewers in with a familiar tale of a skilled professional (Jung Hae-in, playing a prosecutor looking to climb the career ladder) who meets an unfortunate (and cliched) fate of suffering memory loss and falling for a coach (Ahn Ha-young) who she just so happens to be dating. This setup is a staple narrative for the saccharine sweet comedies or the overly broad rom-coms, but this series aims to go in another direction as shown by its TV-MA rating. This is more than your average rom-com. This series takes a more adult approach to the concepts of identity, deceit, and connection and the struggle to provide honest and genuine connection in the face of the obstacles that society has built around us.

This series is designed to focus on the rift between the dramatic and comedic tones of the world that is created in the mind of the boxing coach while trying to cover the memory loss of the protagonist. Similar to the ‘fake’ relationship that he designed, the world he has created contains some notable flaws. The protagonist, in her memory loss, has plenty of opportunities for self growth and self discovery. This series, although a romantic comedy, depicts a deep emotional journey. The acting is one of the few bright spots of the story as the comedy and drama tones serve to highlight some of the most unlikely of the human emotions.

Performances That Anchor the Absurdity

“Our Sticky Love” relies heavily on its lead actors. Jung Hae-in is known for his range of acclaimed roles in the best romantic dramas. Here, he plays an amnesiac prosecutor and shows a lot of gravitas for the role. He captures the confusion beautifully and shows the character’s vulnerability in a reserved and intense manner. He also captures the struggle of the character as she rediscovers both who she is and what she loves to do, and he does it in such a way that it adds depth to the character and the show.

Ahn Ha-young plays the role of a boxing coach who has faked her own romance in the past. This character can be manipulative and sympathetic at once, and Ahn Ha-young does a great job of wandering that line. She also shows great chemistry with Jung Hae-in. Their relationship takes a little while to develop but eventually becomes a welcomed addition to the show. It’s interesting that Heo Sung-tae was casted in this role, given his previous roles have been intense and at times even villainous. Though not explicitly stated in the synopsis, Heo Sung-tae’s character is likely the hero or a villain of the show, thus providing some interesting conflict for the main characters that ‘Our Sticky Love’ lacked previously. As good as the actors were, the directors Kim Jang-han and Mo Ji-hye did a great job extracting performances that elevated the material in ways that avoided going over the top or letting the moments breathe and become more powerful.

A Binge-Worthy Dilemma for the Streaming Age

Modern audiences of streaming services may find "Our Sticky Love" an intriguing, but maybe even morally gray, series. The plot centers on a moral conundrum: can love grow in a world of lies? This type of plot will certainly entice audiences to do exactly what the show seems designed for, which is to plunge audiences deeply into the show, or binge it. The writing and structure of episodes are excellent, in that each episode ends on a lie or secret that will get audiences to click 'next episode'. The pacing is great. While the show does contain a lot plot twists, the pacing allows the characters time to grow throughout the series. This pacing is even better considering the potentially cliché or mundane patterns the show may contain. Because of this, audiences should remain intrigued throughout the show.

The series does not avoid the darker truths within its moral conundrum focused on the boxing coach. The series contains a more mature and complicated premise about personal gain and love sitting within the moral grayness. It seems this show will give sophisticated and mature viewers a better and more fulfilling time than other lighter romantic series. The plot of the series is centered around emotional and dramatic conflict, while characters grow due to the many secrets and lies. The way the show pulls off emotional and dramatic storylines around the characters is so engaging, that it may even lead some audiences to go on a weekend binge on the series.

The Bottom Line: Can Love Stick Through the Lies?

“Our Sticky Love” may borrow from tropes, but it’s still exceptionally unique. It’s a show to watch if you’re not about the cliche, but want something done fantastically. “Our Sticky Love” takes on the modern problems of personal relationships, the blurred lines of reality, and the not-so-simple things in life with maturity. It extends the boundaries of a simple romantic comedy.

The direction of Kim Jang-han and Mo Ji-hye with Jung Hae-in’s phenomenal acting creates real emotional depth, even when things get weird. The premise might lose a few viewers because of the risky nature of a deception-focused start, but the drama and character detail will win them over. The series asks you to take a chance on its characters’ faults, there is a lot to gain and you will be rewarded. Those looking for a K-drama to balance the extremes of romance and drama with the not-so-romantic things in life will want to add this to their watch list.

What works

  • Mature and complex take on familiar rom-com tropes.
  • Strong, nuanced performances, especially from Jung Hae-in.
  • Engaging blend of drama and comedy with ethical depth.
  • Pacing designed for compelling episodic streaming.

What falls short

  • Premise of prolonged deception might test some viewers' patience.
  • Initial chemistry between leads takes time to fully develop.
  • Genre balance between drama and comedy is occasionally uneven.
